I don't know if I'll be going to work for the next couple of days, because the TTC has decided to strike, without giving the people of Toronto a 48 hour warning.

I could go on and on about how much this pisses me off.. but I will only say this now.

IF I DO NOT GO TO WORK, I DO NOT GET PAID. IF I DO NOT GET PAID, I DO NOT EAT.

Whatever issues they had, it is absolutely and increadibly greedy to hold a WHOLE city, and the people who pay their salaries, HOSTAGE. It is UNFAIR for them to do this to us.

I am like many MANY other people that work shift jobs, and DO NOT have ANY OTHER way to get to work. I am absolutely appauled that this was allowed to happen.

It's like a child having a tantrum in a grocery store to get a chocolate bar.. everytime the TTC or its employees do not get what they want... they strike, and they get what they want. And we have to deal with the outcome. Everytime they are pissy, they strike, and they will do it over and over again, cuz like a child's tantrum, it WORKS. They get what they want. They get their chocolate bar, while everyone else has to suffer. Someone has to tell the greedy bratty child to stop it now, and not give in. Too bad. Now someone has to say to the TTC that they can NOT throw a tantrum everytime they don't get what they want, and that it will no longer be tolerated. But politics are politics, and it is what it is, and we the poor people of Toronto, get FUCKED in the meantime. And when the strike is over, and everyone goes back to life, we STILL have to take the TTC, and we have to go on taking this bulshit. We can't do anything about it. How fair is that.

Note: This statement is coming from a TTC lover. I thank God that the TTC exists, and that I can live a semi-normal life in this city. But I am just really angry, and I'm stressed out as to how I'm gonna get to work tomorrow. I can't walk, it takes one and a half hours to get there ON THE TTc.. can you imagine how long of a walk that would be?? It's ludicrous to even entertain the thought of walking to and from work tomorrow.

So thank you TTC, for taking $54 out of my paycheck.. and if it goes on for more than one day, well then, I will have another $54 gone. Thanks a lot.

M

Edit: This is what happened tonight while I was downtown.
At 11pm tonight, my friend and I were at the McDonald's by Broadview station getting icecream, and this TTC lady came in, and told all the employees to make arrangements, cuz the TTC was striking at midnight.. and we listened as we ate our icecream, and kind of thought that it was a joke, and about 40 minutes later, we were walking past Brodview station, and there was a City TV camera guy there, so we hung around to see what was going on, and the employees inside started kicking everyone out, and people were just in a state of disbelief, and then all the people on the streetcars were just plopped on the bus platform, and they tried to go into the station, and by that time it had been locked solid. Everyone was so confused and shit.. It was surreal to watch. Luckily, my friend drives, so I got a ride home, but I am SO FUCKED for working tomorrow. :( I hate being held hostage in my own city.

music: Migrate - Mariah

K well, let's just get this out of my system NOW lol.. so I don't bother up your Friend Pages for the next MONTH or so!

I waited for the new Mariah CD, and when I say waited.. I WAITED. I downloaded the whole cd, and put it on my iPod ONLY to play it AFTER I bought the actual CD (that way I didn't have to come home and rip it to the computer... I could actually listen to it on the way home). But I ended up sleeping in on Tuesday, when I was supposed to go to HMV and get the two versions of the CD that day. I went to work.. and WOOOOOO!!! Shoppers was selling it for 13.99 (plus my discount!! HAHA)

So I bought it,,, plus 4 magazines, and about 7 newspapers to cut out all the reviews and pics!
And I got home, and ended up listening to the CD on my computer anyways haha.

I listened to it a few times in a row, and here's what I thought!

For all those that don't care a bit about Mariah, I'm putting this behind a cut lol.

Mozart's Lacrimosa Requiem

Feb. 8th, 2007 | 01:50 am
mood: Meh... Meh...
music: Lacrimosa Requiem - Mozart

Ok so I was on my computer checking email, and I had Spike channel on for Star Trek Voyager.. (naturally), and all of a sudden, I hear the beginning notes to "Lacrymosa" by Evanescence on the TV.. but when I turned my head - it wasn't Ev - it was a running shoe commercial for XX2 Air Jordans, using ALMOST the entire 3 minutes of Mozart's Requiem Lacrimosa. In the commercial, there is a basketball game in process, and it's all in slow motion, and it's actually a very cool commercial. It fit with the Lacrimosa piece so well, that I just had to watch the whole thing. Before I heard it done on The Open Door album, I had never heard Lacrimosa by Mozart.. and since then it has become one of my favorite classical pieces ever. Amy opened the door to classical music for me (No pun intended!), and I thought I'd share the commercial with everyone.

If I can find it on YouTube, I'll post a link!

Pan's Labyrinth

Jan. 22nd, 2007 | 04:22 am
mood: tired tired
music: Pan's Labyrinth Soundtrack

GO SEE PAN'S LABYRINTH.

If you like to go see movies, I think you should go see this one. It's worth the money.
I can't put my finger on it, exactly why I am so intrigued by it, but it's just the bizarre imagry, the beautiful soft music, the fact that I can identify with the lead character, the juxtaposition between the two totally different worlds, and just the whole emotion of the movie.. I JUST LOVE IT.

I stumbled upon the website a little while ago, and read all about the movie, and instantly wanted to see it. I didn't know it was actually coming out so soon, and was so happy that I could actually see it, and lastnight I saw it in the front row of an absolute PACKED theater. This movie is well worth all the acknowledgement, and critical acclaim that it's been getting from everywhere lately. If you like non-boring movies, movies that have substance, movies that make you think, but at the same time a movie that will dazzle your imagination... then go see this movie.

Crawl Away (Tool)

Jan. 6th, 2007 | 05:18 am
mood: Meh. Meh.
music: Thoughtless - Evanescence

Crawled away from me
Slipped away from me

Tried to keep ahold
But there was nothing I could say
Slid away from me
Crept away from me
Tried to keep you down
But there was nothing I could say
What you're trying to say
Is you don't wanna play

But what you want and what you need
Don't mean that much to me

I can see your back is turning
If I could I'd stick a knife in

This is love
This is love
This is my love for you
This is my love for you
This is my love for you
This is my love for you
This is my love for you
This is my love

Say you won't go
Get up
Now

What you're trying to say
Is you don't wanna play
Well what you want and what you need
Don't mean a fuck to me

I can see your back is turning
If I could I'd stick a knife in

***
Never underestimate the power of a Tool song.

To all of my friends, I love you all very much, and I am so thankful to have people like you in my life, to make me smile when I'm sad, to bring me up when I'm down, and to remind me that when I think I'm alone in this world, all I have to do is come here, and feel a bunch of arms wrap around me, and I know that I have the greatest gift of all - friends.

Haha.. Reminds me of Steve..

music: Jingle Cats - Jingle Bells

This is apparenlty what my obituary will say!
I, Mandy, being of sound mind, hereby bequeath my entire estate to the Green Fairy that lives in my ear.
I do this because they threatened to take my thumbs.

My only regret in this life was that I didn't eat more sugar right out of the bag.

***
You hear that Steve? You threatened to take my thumbs!! *gasP* How could you..
Now let's go eat some sugar. Mmm..
***

I've been kinda busy lately - with a list full of crap to do, and no time to do it in, or I get involved in what's happening online, and I waste my nights doing shit all on the internet lol... Work is also keeping me very busy, which is always fun. I've been listening to the "Jingle Cats" a lot HAHAHAHA. Priceless shit. Makes me smile and think of my kitties. Also I have been listening to a LOT of classical. I think I'm gonna need another IPOD for just my classical music.. However, if I just buy one with bigger GB, then it should be able to fit all my Mariah.. and some other music too !!! Hahaha.

Now go download "White Christmas" by Jingle Cats. You can thank me later for the hours of laughter and delight that you will undoubtedly feel from listening to it at this time of year!

Sad...

Dec. 6th, 2006 | 04:13 am
mood: sad sad
music: Lithium - Evanescence

I watched a very eye-opening show tonight on PBS. It was about the 6 million pets that are euthanized in America each year. (That's a U.S. figure, but I can assume that it's at least HALF of that in Canada, if not the same.)

All of this is so saddening. I miss my cats. They were just two cats, but they meant the world to me, and I can't even possibly think about all the animals that are being forgotten everyday in this world. A LOT of people think, "Why the hell should I help animals, when there are people suffering in this world?". Well it's as simple as this: suffering is suffering, whether it be human, cat, dog, bird, reptile, and so on. I believe that animals need our help more, because of the rampant feeling that animals are second class citizens of this world, and therefore do not need/deserve our help, let alone concern. This way of thinking is VERY WRONG. I won't get into a huge rant about how humans are destroying the world right now, cuz that's a much bigger battle, but I will tell you that it takes a very small small step in the right direction, for each and every person with a conscious, to start to help.

I've been reading up on this a bit, and with help from a few GREAT communities on LJ, and the program that I watched tonight, I thought I could make a few suggestions to my friends. And hopefully you can spread that word onto your friends, and slowly, conciously, bit by bit, we can all help in our own ways.

1 - This suggestion is taken from vegan_baby @ [info]animals_ontario
Help out your local pet shelter! Most of them could use an extra hand with supplies now and then:

dry and wet food
litter
pet beds
toys
treats
kitten formula (milk replacer)
cleaning supplies
food dishes
litter boxes
Volunteer and help out. Take the dogs for a walk, cuddle with the cats, feed the bunnies. They need your love!

2 - Make a donation to a local shelter this year for Christmas. Make the donation in someone's name as a gift, or make a donation for someone who has everything, and you don't know what to get them! (Of course be aware of if the person would appreciate such a gesture or not!)

3 - Look for a shelter sponsered event to support, or make one up yourself. This could be a learning experience for the whole family, as it shows compassion, and teaches life lessons to children, not to mention adults who have forgotten to be compassionate (like so many of us).

4 - Take a little time to think of actually adopting a pet for life. I can't stress more the ABSOLUTE NEED for adoption from your local SHELTERS. There are thousands of little faces, little eyes, little tails, and little hearts waiting for love from someone special. We as humans cannot forget about their needs. We MUST remember that WE are the reason that they are there.
Adopting just one pet from a shelter is a huge responsibility, but with that responsibility comes years and years of love, loyalty, and companionship that only a pet can give us. Think about it :)

Basically, I miss my cats. I want another one, but it would not be fair right now to the new cat to have it live only in my bedroom, as I live with my mom and sister. I will however, adopt a cat as soon as I get my own appartment. I can't wait for that day.

I miss my cats so much, and I remember how they lived, and I remember that they had loving homes, and even though I can't provide for another one right now, I can make an effort to help another cat or dog in this world - on behalf of my very much missed kitties.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know it sounds like preaching, and hippie-stuff, but I really strongly believe that all of us can help in a little way. If you are my friend, all I ask from you is to think about this post in honesty. And if you want to send me a Christmas Card this year, I love you so much! But better yet, send a small donation to a shelter in your area in my name. Or buy some treats for the shelter.. or better yet, SPREAD the word. Spreading the word can save many lives.

Let's change the world for these animals. Let's make a difference in their lives.
Be a messanger. Be a hero.
Thank you.

3 - We at war with terrorism, racism, and most of all, we at war with ourselves
4 - There's no escape from the spell you have placed
5 - How many times are you gonna apologize about the same thing?
6 - Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
7 - Ever since you left me, I've been tryin to hide the pain, putting on a smile with lipstick
8 - And with the early dawn moving right along couldn't buy an ounce full of sleep
9 - Hey Mr. Seeker hold on to this advice, if you can seek then you will find
10 - I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away

12 - You were my sun, you were my earth, you didn't know all the ways that I loved you
13 - This time, this place, misused, mistakes
14 - Give me a reason to believe that you're gone
15 - You need to stop playing round with all the clowns and the wankstas, good girls gotta get down with the ganstas...
16 - It wasn't raining yet, but it was definately a little misty on that warm November night
17 - Touch me baby, it feels so amazing, as you stimulate me, and you make me want you more and more
18 - Is that you doin that to me, with your stare, I feel the temperature start to rise, and I really take it from there
19 - You could buy me diamonds, you could by me pearls, take me on a cruise around the world, cuz baby you know I'm worth it
20 - I've been looking in the mirror for so long
21 - Catch me as I fall, say you're here and it's all over now
22 - Oh baby when you talk like that, you make a woman go mad, so be wise and keep on reading the signs of my body
23 - Peace is what tell me, Lord am I unholy?
24 - I've met many so many men, and it's like they're all the same, my appetite for lovin is now my hunger pain
25 - My baby he don't talk sweet, he ain't got much to say, but he loves me loves me loves me, I know that he loves me anyway
26 - Gotta change my answering machine now that I'm alone, cuz right now it says that we can't come to the phone
27 - Oh when you walk by every night, talkin sweet and lookin fine, I get kinda hectic inside
28 - When I pretend everything is what I want it to be, I look exactly like what you had always wanted to see
29 - Where's all my soul sisters, lemme hear ya flow sisters!
30 - Long lost words whisper slowly to me, still can't find what keeps me here
